TACHAU

These mid-18th century buildings in the most attractive luminous whitish-grey stone located on the top of delightful rolling hills some 6km north of Duras in the Lot & Garonne, being around 130km east of Bordeaux airport. The views in all directions are superb, surrounded by hundreds of acres of grape vines, fields of sunflowers and plum orchards. Until recently, the estate had produced its own excellent wines, notably Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The Tachau Estate has two scattered tranquil hamlets close to the tiny pretty village of Lubersac; both are really too insignificant to appear on maps!

DURAS

One of many beautiful bastide market towns in the area with some of its mediaeval walled fortifications remaining, Duras has a picturesque castle, the ancient seat of the Dukes of Duras. There are a good range of shops including two supermarkets, bakers, butchers, chemist, newsagent with English newspapers, florists, cafes, three excellent restaurants and even a library.

TACHAU FISHING TRUST

The private fishing club on the larger of the Deux Lacs de Tachau is limited to 30 full family memberships plus three week temporary members for those staying in gites on the Tachau Estate. Our lake is well stocked with large carp and, via the smaller lake, is fed from a grotto in a cliff face, which is supplied by an underground stream in the limestone. The lakes are in a tranquil valley 10 minutes walk from Le Manoir de Tachau.
Family membership costs £60 (Euros 90) per annum and eligible users of the lake licence are strictly limited to parents, their children and their grandchildren. Temporary membership at £20 (Euros 30) covers those staying in one of our stone built gites; licences are issued at the time of holiday reservations being received for our gites.

ACCOMMODATION

Beside the principal part of the house, which is seldom let, there are three excellent peaceful gites; each spacious gite has been completely renovated in 2001.
